The AA Turret is an offensive, land-placed tower, and is based on real anti-aircraft defenses.
It has exceptional cost efficiency in regards to its damage output on both paths, and comes with Air Targeting at its base level as well as Stealth Detection on its second bottom path upgrade for a relatively cheap total of $1,400. Additionally, it is able to rebuild once should it be downed. However, all of this comes at the caveat of it being incapable of targeting ground enemies, and as such serves exclusively as a counter to Airborne ones.
Upgrades[]
The top path for the AA Turret leans it more towards crowd control, granting it high damage coupled with a decent splash radius and high burst size, allowing it to wipe out hordes of airborne enemies. It additionally bestows upon it a colossal range; its max level having the largest in the game besides that of the Artillery and Warship, which compensates for its relatively lackluster DPS cost efficiency, low health, and the massive deadzone it gains.
The bottom path meanwhile focuses entirely on single-target damage, ditching its splash radius entirely for pure, rapid-fire, and highly cost efficient DPS. While its range is not nearly as large as the top path, it is still massive. It also has much more health in comparison, and so it can afford to take a few hits from bosses; unlike the top path which has to be placed far away to avoid being targeted due to its lower health.
The AA Turret should only be used in gamemodes with high numbers of airborne enemies. Otherwise, it will be entirely useless or outclassed in versatility and general effectiveness by other air targeting options such as Railgunner, Golden Ranger, or XWM Turret.
The AA Turret's top path is best used to wipe out swarms of airborne enemies. However it also defends well against high damaging airborne enemies such as Artemis or the VX-Drone if placed far out of their range.
Top path AA Turrets should also always be placed extremely far away from the path to both mitigate its deadzone as well as prevent it from being targeted by enemy attacks, as its health is quite poor for its cost.
The AA Turret's bottom path is best used against single, high health airborne enemies, though its fast firerate makes it decent at crowd control in and of itself.
Note that the AA Turret's top path deals explosive damage while its bottom deals bullet damage. Should there be airborne enemies that heavily resist one of those damage types, instead use the path that deals the other.
In the case of there being airborne enemies that heavily resist both, other air targeting towers that deal other damage types and/or ignores resistances should be used instead, such as, again, Railgunner, Golden Ranger, or XWM Turret.
Trivia[]
The AA Turret's maxxed top path has the second highest range of all land towers, right behind the bottom path Artillery's 175 range, and the third highest in the entire game behind both Artillery and the Warship.
The AA Turret is the only tower to gain bullet damage.
The base AA Turret has the lowest Cost : DPS ratio of all base level towers.
Additionally, its maxxed bottom path has the lowest Cost : DPS ratio of all max level towers.
