The Commander is a support tower that buffs the Damage and Range of nearby towers, with its buffs being able to stack with other support towers like Medic and John. It also had three unique abilities that could aid the player on the battlefield. It could've been obtained from the Tower Battles Event or purchased separately for 550 prior to 23 October 2024.
Upgrades[]
The Commander only has one path, but this tower provides support capabilities. On the first level, it provides range and damage buffs. On the later levels, it gives a 30% range buff and 7% damage buff. On levels 3-5 it gains abilities each level, with these being: Call To Arms, Stryker Call, and Airstrike. Its Call To Arms ability will allow it to deal 13 Damage[2] to enemies for the ability's duration.
Unlike the EDJ, the Commander has much higher range, allowing for more leniency when placing it down.
This range can also be buffed by EDJs and other Commanders as well.
It is worth spamming Commanders and using the abilities as this will allow for more damage to be dealt.
You can use the bottom path EDJ to decrease the cooldown of the Commander's abilities.
The Airstrike ability can be used in a similar vain to the Artillery by targeting summoner enemies like the Specter and bypassing the other enemies.
It also ignores Explosive Resistance.
Its range buff allows towers with low range like the Shotgunner to have larger range, increasing their effectiveness.
To keep the Call To Arms ability on 100% uptime, you can place down 2-3 max level Commanders to “chain” the ability.
The Commander's damage buff is generally more applicable than EDJ's firerate buff, since some towers like 5-x Missile Trooper and x-5 Railgunner have aim time instead of reload time, which is unaffected by rate-of-fire buffs.
Since its damage buff uniquely stacks with other support towers, the Commander can be combined with John/Medic to provide 80% and 330% increased damage respectively if you use both of their abilities at once.
Like other support towers, the Commander is completely useless on towers that cannot receive friendly buffs like the XWM Turret and Warship.
Trivia[]
Obviously, the Commander is based off the Commander from Tower Battles as part of the collab, albeit with minor differences.
In Tower Battles, the Commander provides both range and firerate buffs. In Tower Defense X, the Commander instead provides range and damage buffs, likely because of the existence of the EDJ which already gives a firerate buff.
The Airstrike ability in Tower Battles costs $1,200 to use and deals 450 damage. In Tower Defense X, the Airstrike ability is free and deals 2,000 damage.
The Spawn APC ability in Tower Battles costs $600 to use, with the Stryker having 600 health points. In Tower Defense X, this ability is free, with the Stryker having 800 health points.
Call to Arms in Tower Battles grants higher firerate temporarily. This is replaced with a temporary damage buff since this Commander does not give a firerate buff.
There is a bug with the Commander where when using Call to Arms, the gun will be brought out but still remain in the holster simultaneously. This bug may be an intentional homage to the original Tower Battles Commander, since this also happens to it when using Call to Arms.
This is the only tower that can shoot through wall colliders.
This may be unintentional though.
The SubstituteCommander is voiced by Fribaru.
The GDA Commander is partly a reference to Tower Defense Simulator, as his voicelines are remakes of the ones GDILIVES did for the Tower Defense Simulator.
The Commander is the first tower to have only one upgrade path.
If you time the APC's right, you can make it look like you're sending a stryker rush powerup if you have 3 commanders.
