The Golden Mine Layer is the upgraded version of the regular Mine Layer that throws golden mines onto the path that can detect stealthed enemies on its base level. Like the Mine Layer, he specializes in dealing with leaks and is great for dealing with bosses if enough mines are placed down.
Upgrades[]
The Top Path for the Golden Mine Layer grants him an ability on his third level that gives him a crossbow, allowing him to shoot mines farther along the path that do even more damage. Like the Mine Layer, this path opts for a large Splash Radius and faster Reload Time, allowing his mines to be placed down more frequently.
Like the Mine Layer, the Bottom Path for the Golden Mine Layer focuses on damage and long lifetime, along with him having thermite mines and being able to Ignore Explosive Resistance. But unlike the Mine Layer, his max level allows him to stun enemies, and he is granted an ability that allows him to throw a mine that can stun any enemy[1] while dealing 5,500 to primary targets.
Unlike the original version, there is no need for this tower to be placed at the end of the map because he places mines faster and he deals more damage. Combined with his huge DPS and stun, he can decimate enemies like Assailants before they can even reach halfway through Oil Rig.
An interesting thing to note is that unlike the original Mine Layer, the Golden Mine Layer's mines (for both paths) do not last as long, which makes placing him near the end even more redundant.
Charged Throw inherits the Ignore Explosive Resistance of the S-Mine upgrade, allowing it to work on Hunters and Assailants.
The Charged Throw can take out strong enemies including strong hordes as well as stun most bosses.
The Top Path can be used against strong enemies in the early to mid stages of the game due to him being cheaper and the Crossbow dealing adequate damage.
However, you may be better off using raw DPS towers for this.
Placing the Golden Mine Layer in corners can make use of his explosion capabilities to deal more damage.
When aiming the Crossbow, keep in mind of how long the Golden Mine Layer takes to load the G-Mine and the travel time.
You want to land the mine in front of the desired enemy to ensure it does damage, as it may otherwise miss the enemy entirely.
The Bottom Path usually outclasses the Top Path as the Golden Mine Layer is normally placed with the assumption that the player has a huge amount of cash to afford his upgrades.
The only pro of Top Path is that it has a bigger splash radius, stacks mines faster, and is cheaper.
To maximize the value of Bottom Path, he should be placed near the middle of the path to utilize its Thermite better.
In Endless Mode, if the player is playing alone, they should use the X-5's Charged Throw as their boss stunner and Slammer/Golden Ranger to group enemies if possible.
This is due to the fact that Golden Mine Layer deals much more damage in comparison to the other 2 stunners, with an impressive 5,500 on its primary target, and its 1,500 to other enemies can be useful against dense crowds of enemies. However, it's not as good as grouping up enemies as the Golden Ranger.
Since the Voidbosses have Full Stun Immunity, the Golden Mine Layer better serves as supplementary damage to them.
Note that it is still possible to group enemies with Golden Mine Layer, though it may be more difficult.
