The Grenadier is a offensive-support Explosive tower that throws grenades at nearby enemies. It is a great early-game tower that is great for dealing with crowds of low-health enemies like Armored Heavy Zombie+ and Armored Zombie, but will tend to struggle with stronger enemies like Charger Boss and Monster, making Missile Trooper and Artillery better choices for dealing with high-health crowds.
Upgrades[]
Its Top Path grants it somewhat cheap Stealth Detection, allowing it to deal with the early waves of most gamemodes, while being cheaper and having more DPS than its Bottom Path, but other Explosive towers tend to be better choices later on.
The Bottom Path for the Grenadier is able to stun enemies for a short period of time, which is extremely useful for fast enemies like Revived Abominations and Armored Runners, giving a window of opportunity for other towers to deal damage. However, it is given a Max Targets, limiting the amount of enemies each grenade can stun at a time. Additionally, Bosses and enemies with stun immunity are unaffected.
When using multiple Grenadiers, players are recommended to change their targeting. This is especially recommended if using multiple X-5 Grenadiers, as swapping targeting for some of them lets them spread their stun across the path.
By itself, the Grenadier isn't very strong. However, it excels in large groups dealing massive amounts of explosive DPS and its stunning capabilities can be game-saving, especially while playing Endless Mode.
Using X-5 Grenadiers in groups can continuously stun zombies in a certain area making it great in certain chokepoints.
Using the Grenadier as your main source of damage isn't a great idea, due to its slow reload time and small range, making it weak against faster enemies that are more spread apart.
Top Path Grenadiers work better for hordes.
The value of the Grenadier can change as the game goes on. Top Path should be used for early-mid game hordes and stealth detection, but it's value decreases later in the game. The Bottom Path, however, has more value late game, as in many gamemodes, its stalling can be game changing due to the amount of fast enemies late game.
Using AoE towers (Artillery, Missile Trooper) with Bottom Path Grenadiers can be great in gamemodes that have heavy hordes in them, such as Expert Mode they can be used to pile up Enemies for the rest to take out more effectively. The top path Grenadier itself can be used with bottom paths as well, if you choose to not bring any more towers. However, due to this you might have to get more Grenadiers for it to be effective unlike other AoE towers, such as the Artillery and Missile Trooper.
Trivia[]
