John is a damage based tower that acts as an offensive-support tower within later upgrades. It is mainly based on GDILIVES, the creator of Tower Defense X, while also being a slight nod to the removed John tower from Tower Defense Simulator. This can act as a great early game tower due to its cost efficiency, but towers like the Golden Ranger and Grenadier tend to be better choices for early game as John lacks Stealth Detection.
Upgrades[]
John's Top Path gains Ignore Bullet Resistance at level 3-X, which is heavily recommended for Intermediate Mode and Expert Mode due to the amount of Bullet reistant enemies in these modes. Upon purchasing the final upgrade for this path however, it will lose the ability to do so, but it will gain Stealth Detection, a massive DPS Buff, and the ability to buff the damage for nearby towers including itself by 50%. This path is great when paired with an EDJ, as it can buff the DPS of a Bottom Path Juggernaut to 1,237.5, and up to 2,250 for a Bottom PathGolden Juggernaut, though it overrides the damage boost of the latter's ability. It is heavily recommended to use this path where boosting DPS is useful endgame.
The Bottom Path for John is recommended for crowd control. Unlike the Bottom PathShotgunner, it has less Max Targets, is more expensive, and is unable to support any nearby towers, but it has a much larger Range. It is able to gain Ignore Bullet Resistance upon its fourth upgrade. It will not gain Stealth Detection, but it gains an ability that can indirectly attack stealthed enemies, and gains a railgun passive ability that separately attacks enemies dealing about 133.4 DPS. Its axe ability deals 2,000 to nearby enemies within an arc, but its attack range is small and it can only damage up to 8 while leaving it unable to use its shotguns for a brief period of time. This path is very cost efficient and can shred groups of enemies if paired with stealth-revealing towers such as the Ghost.
John's Top Path is great at supporting other towers with his rage ability, so always be sure to place it close to other towers so it can buff them.
It's especially effective with towers like the Juggernaut, Golden Juggernaut, and Railgunner, as their already high DPS becomes much higher with the ability.
It's recommended to have more than one Top Path John, because of the cooldown of 40 seconds. However, this can be lowered with EDJ down to 30 seconds.
John is a good tower candidate to be used as bait, due to it only costing $300 to place down with 100.
John is a very good early game tower, as it has surprisingly high DPS early on and is cheap to place down.
This makes John good for spamming if one wants cheap early game DPS.
However, it cannot be used entirety by itself as the Bottom Path has no stealth detection and the maxed Top Path upgrade is way too costly to deal with early stealth enemies.
Because John's 3-X and X-4 upgrades ignores bullet resistance and deals high damage, it's effective against the Armored Heavy Zombie+ and Super Heavy Zombie.
Utilizing the "Axe Attack" ability often is recommended; the 2,000 can save you from death while also dealing massive damage to bosses and priority targets if timed correctly.
It is recommended to place 2-5 Johns near turns as it will hit the most amount of enemies. This does means it will have to be placed in a corner where it can't utilize its full range.
Although it can only hit 8 targets at most, the damage is enough to severely damage groups high health enemies like the Revived Abomination.
It can also indirectly damage stealth enemies if triggered within, although this shouldn't be relied upon due to the ability cooldown.
Trivia[]
The John tower is based off the owner of the game and content creator GDILIVES.
It is also likely meant to be a spiritual successor to the John tower from Tower Defense Simulator before it was revamped entirely to become the Militant.
The Bottom Path of John is heavily based off Doom Slayer from the game franchise Doom.
John's Bottom Path is featured on the Victory screen.
The AC-130 also got its own trailer, but it is not a tower.
John is hinted at being the founder of the GDA by the Farm tower’s 4th bottom upgrade, GDA Funding, as he is shown with money signs behind him. His ROBLOX username GDILIVES is also seen on the AC-130.
It is unknown if the John tower has any relation to the implied references to John.
