The Juggernaut is a DPS powerhouse armed with a fully automatic minigun designed to combat the numerous enemies in Tower Defense X. It is a great mid-to-late game tower for virtually every gamemode due to its significant damage output and utility. Its upgrades are relatively expensive, but they can be easily combated with Farms and Bottom PathEDJs. This tower is great when paired with a Top PathJohn and EDJ's abilities as they can significantly boost the DPS of the tower. However, it is easily outclassed by its Golden counterpart except in terms of price.
Upgrades[]
The Top Path for the Juggernaut grants it more Range at the cost of DPS. It also allows it to Ignore Bullet Resistance but does not have Stealth Detection, making it semi-useful in Intermediate Mode and Expert Mode, and barely useful in every other mode. The Top Path for the XWM Turret acts as a superior version of this path, as it has more Range, more DPS, Stealth Detection, and Stun Immunity. Players are recommended to use Laser Gunners, or top path Golden Rangers rather than this path, especially on Expert Mode, as they both can detect stealth, which is crucial for the later waves.
The Bottom Path Juggernaut, notable for its immense single-target DPS, Stealth Detection, and Stun Immunity, becomes an even more formidable force when combined with EDJ and John supports. These supports amplify the Juggernaut’s stats, enabling it to deliver even greater damage with longer range. While this path comes at a more expensive cost than its counterpath, the investment can yield superior performance. However, it’s crucial for players to consider the cost-effectiveness of their strategies within the gamemode’s context.
The Juggernaut'sTop Path can be extremely useful against enemies with Bullet Resistance, as its 4-X upgrade ignores it.
However, there are more cost-effective towers such as Laser Gunner for Bullet-Resistant enemies.
The Juggernaut is a very expensive tower, so it shouldn't be brought into a match with the intention of using it as an early game tower. It is advised to use Farm to be able to afford the higher level upgrades of the Juggernaut.
Even if you have the money needed to place down a Juggernaut, it is still not recommended for early to mid-game uses.
This is because of the preparation needed for stealth enemies, as the Juggernaut's upgrades for stealth detection are very expensive during the early and mid-game waves.
However, if you do own a lot of Cash Crates, it is still not recommended to use it as an early defense tower due to its small range at early levels and very expensive upgrades.
The Juggernaut's Bottom Path has some of the highest DPS in the game, but has a shorter range compared to the Top Path. It should be supplemented with an X-3+ EDJ in order to give it more range.
Additionally, the Bottom Path is much more expensive than the Top Path, making the Farm essential for this path to be affordable.
While it can be maxed out without the Farm in modes with a lot of high health enemies, particularly Elite mode and Nightmare XMAS, the Farm greatly increases the number of high level bottom path Juggernauts that can be afforded.
The Juggernaut's Bottom Path can be paired with abilities from EDJ, John's Rage ability and Medic's Kritz ability to increase the damage output immensely, up to around 4200 DPS
If you do not need stealth detection but need a Juggernaut for extra DPS, it is advised you get a 3-X Juggernaut instead of an X-3 one, as it has more range and is cheaper.
You can of course still use X-3+ Juggernauts but consider the more expensive cost and lower range.
Trivia[]
Even though Ranger and Missile Trooper are the first towers in the game, the Juggernaut was finished and shown off first in the dev updates.
The bottom path Juggernaut's expanding quad barrel minigun is a reference to the Chain Gun from Doom Eternal. Specifically, its mobile turret weapon mod which would open up the Chain Gun, similarly enough, the aim time on Juggernaut's bottom path is used to open up the minigun.
On July 28th, 2023, it was announced that the Juggernaut's face was changed, most likely due to criticism about the old Juggernaut's face which looked anime-like and did not fit with the style of the game.
However, the upgrade icons retain the old face.
If you manage to get close enough to the X-5 or 5-X Juggernaut's mask, you can see its original psychopath smile instead of its normal serious face.
Though not stated anywhere by the developers it's very clear that the top path Juggernaut draws inspiration from the Juggernaut enemy in the Call of Duty games (and more specifically the one from the Modern Warfare 2 (2009)).
