Description[]

The Missile Trooper is a powerful Splash RadiusExplosive tower equipped with a SMAW. Its splash radius allows it to be good against groups, while its high damage allows it to deal with early-midgame high-health enemies like Knights and Abominations. It is heavily recommended for beginners for Intermediate Mode, Elite Mode and Expert Mode due to it being a great way for dealing with crowds, but players should be careful due to enemies in Expert Mode having high explosive resistances like Armored Runners and Resurrected Juggernauts.

Upgrades[]

Its Top Path grants it more RangeRange and cheaper Stealth DetectionStealth Detection when compared to its Bottom Path, and it is the more cost efficient path out of the two. It is great for dealing with high health enemies as well as bosses like Eradicator and Revived Plague Doctor, but tends to not be a great choice for bosses with high damage or explosive resistance. At Level 5-X, it gains a 3X Primary Target Multiplier at the cost of firing slower, having to aim and lower rocket travel speed. This makes it better for high health enemies such as bosses. It also BuffCan Target Air Enemies at level 5-X, allowing for it to be another counter to a limited-detection trait.

The Bottom Path for the Missile Trooper grants it a larger Splash RadiusSplash Radius than its Top Path, with its final upgrade reducing this large radius and DamageDamage but granting it a very short Reload TimeReload Time. It also costs more and has less RangeRange than its Top Path. It can be a great way to deal with low-health crowds of enemies, but players may struggle with dealing with the low damage and lack of stealth detection.

Strategies[]

  • The Missile Trooper excels against hordes of enemies due to its damage and splash radius.
  • During early to mid-game, spam 3-2 Missile Trooper is an excellent spam option due to its high damage and fast reload speed.
  • 5-2 Missile Trooper is very good at killing tough bosses, dealing Damage660 to its primary target. However, it has a long reload time and needs support
    • Since 5-X Missile Trooper has Aim Time, the effects of support towers such as the EDJ are reduced, as Aim Time acts as a separate cooldown for the Missile Trooper and it cannot be reduced.
  • Missile Trooper is a great tower for Intermediate mode as it can deal with armored enemies fairly well and there are numerous hordes of enemies in this mode for the Missile Trooper to counter. It can also deal lots of damage to the Predator and Eradicator.
    • Its main hindrance is the Infiltrator due to it having high explosive resistance.
  • Since the Missile Trooper has high damage, it's recommended to set some Missile Troopers to Strongest to not waste damage on weaker enemies, especially for Top Path Missile Troopers, as they must aim at an enemy for long enough before firing.
    • Other towers should be used to eliminate weaker enemies, not mention that the splash damage will kill weaker enemies around anyway.
    • However, it may be dangerous to set all of your Missile Troopers to Strongest (especially if relying solely or mostly on Missile Troopers) because weaker and/or faster enemies can slip by.

Trivia[]

  • In earlier development stages of the game, Missile Trooper was meant to be a starter tower. This was scrapped as it was too overpowered.
  • Even though Missile Trooper is one of the towers in the first video of TDX, the Juggernaut was finished and shown off first in the dev updates.
  • This tower appears in the Starter Pack, which would also reward Shotgunner and 1,250.
    • This is likely referencing the fact that it was supposed to be a starter tower.
  • Upon the game's release, the Missile Trooper didn't have a dance animation.
  • The Missile Trooper also had darker skin and darker outfit in the early stages of development.
  • The Missile Trooper is one of the only towers to have a portview icon that is not its base level. Other examples are the Golden Scout skin for the Golden Ranger as well as Warship.
  • Interestingly, the first top path upgrade (HE Rockets) is more expensive than the second top path upgrade (Optic Sight). This is not seen with any other tower, other then Cryo Ranger.
