The Toxicnator is an offensive-support tower that wields a grenade launcher loaded with toxins. The Toxicnator shoots a grenade at enemies, spawning a gas cloud that sticks to enemies and damages them over time. Enemies can be damaged multiple times by its gas cloud if they are too slow to outrun it, are frozen by Ice damage towers or the Cryo Blast powerup, or stunned by the Grenadier and/or Golden Ranger. It is also able to apply extra damage to enemies, allowing towers to kill them faster.
Upgrades[]
The Top Path for the Toxicnator is great for dealing damage to hordes of enemies over a long period of time. When multiple Top Paths are placed, their gas clouds will add up to deal massive DPS to those enemies. This path gains Stealth Detection for relatively cheap compared to its Bottom Path. It is a great path for Expert Mode as it can deal with multiplied enemies easily.
The Bottom Path grants the Toxicnator the ability to debuff enemies for a certain amount of time. This debuff allows towers to deal more damage to enemies, and is able to stack with the Top PathCryo Blaster's applied debuff to frozen enemies as well. Its ability works like the Artillery, allowing the player to select any point in range and on the path.
It is recommended to place this tower at bends, as it can hit the most enemies that way.
Since the gas clouds can damage multiple enemies, the Toxicnator is best against crowds.
However, the Toxicnator may struggle against high health enemies in the early-game like the Revived Boss 1, as its early single target DPS is somewhat lacking.
The Toxicnator cannot detect stealth enemies until 4-X or X-5, so it's not recommended to use the Bottom Path for stealthed enemies but rather the Top Path.
However, the gas clouds can indirectly hit and infect stealth enemies before the Toxicnator has stealth detection.
The Bottom Path for the Toxicnator is significantly more expensive than the Top Path, so towers like the Farm and Bottom PathEDJ will help a lot in affording it.
Placing multiple Toxicnators and setting each one to have different targeting is an effective way to weaken crowds of enemies, especially when using the Top Path, as it spreads the gas clouds out forcing infection to rapidly stack and constantly reapply.
The Toxicnator's usefulness is decently dependent on the map size. In larger maps, players can take full advantage of 5-X Toxicnator's incredibly long poison time. That luxury isn't afforded on shorter maps, meaning players must either lean more towards X-5's support purpose or not use Toxicnator at all.
The Toxicnator is useful for the early game in Expert Mode, as it can demolish enemies without any upgrades for a few waves.
5-X Toxicnator will struggle against bosses, it is advised to sell all top path Toxicnators on the field and go for bottom path Toxicnators due to the 273 DPS Gas Cloud and "Toxic Blast" ability exposing bosses to 10% more damage from towers.
Bottom path Toxicnator pairs very well with towers that can't receive friendly buffs, such as XWM Turret and Warship, as its ability can make them deal more damage without directly buffing them.
The ability also pairs well with other, more direct support towers like John. Though multiple of the same support buffs don't stack, (Ex: If a Medic uses Kritz on a tower and John uses his rage ability at the same time, the tower will only deal 300% increased damage instead of the 350% damage it would do if both buffs applied. Commander is an exception to this, and both his passive and active damage buffs will apply on top of other buffs.) Toxicnator can make enemies take an addition 10-30% more damage on top of other damage increases.
For the early Victorious! screen, one of the maxed paths of Toxicnator had a design, very similar to fully upgraded Toxic Gunner from Tower Defense Simulator.
This tower was originally named “Chemical Thrower” but was renamed for unknown reasons.
The Toxicnator possibly gets its inspirations from Critical Tower Defense'sToxicator. Similar to the Toxicator, the Toxicnator also wears a neon-green respirator. The main difference is that the Toxicnator wields a grenade launcher while the Toxicator wields a heavily modified experimental rifle with a mortar for a follow-up attack.
Ironically, Critical Tower Defense had a secret tower called "Jon Roblox", which was made as a tribute towards John Roblox in 2021. John himself asked for it to be removed soon after, due to the game being part of Critical Strike, a game in which the owner was recently exposed as a sexual predator at the time.
Toxicnator is the only tower to deal Gas damage. Given that Gas Resistance does not exist, no enemy can counter it since it'll always deal full damage against all enemies.
Toxicnator is referred as the "Toxinator" on the 2024 XMAS Event's Normal Mode loadout presets, more specifically, the Heavy Weapons Loadout.
