The Z.E.D. (acronym for Zombie Extermination Device) is a spawner tower that spawns units with autocannons that are meant for dealing with the numerous hordes of zombies. It could've been obtained from the Tower Battles Event or purchased separately for 3,000 when it is on sale.
Upgrades[]
Like the Commander, the Z.E.D. only has one path. Its units are able to fire rockets at Level 2 and it is able to deal 2,980 DPS at Level 5, with its miniguns being able to Ignore Bullet Resistance.
The Z.E.D. has very expensive upgrade costs on its later upgrades, so players should pair this with top path Farm in order to get the most out of it.
You can also place an X-5 EDJ to reduce its upgrade costs.
The Z.E.D. might not be as effective in matches with three or more players as in other matches.
This is because you can only place 2, but unlike the Armored Factory or Barracks, less players own it. Thus, on average the amount of Z.E.D.s placed will be lower, combined with the fact that only one unit will repeatedly spawn from it.
Like other spawner towers, it is not recommended to place the Z.E.D. near the front entrance because it will take up space for other towers and it will function normally no matter where it is placed.
The Z.E.D. cannot detect stealth enemies until it reaches level 5, so for the most part it will rely on collision and splash damage against them. This can be an issue if these stealth enemies have high health like the Revived Abomination.
You can use other towers with cheap stealth detection like the Laser Gunner or Golden Ranger to deal with these enemies.
Use the Laser Gunner's Stealth Reveal,Sniper's Flare Gun or bottom path Warship’s global stealth reveal ability to reveal stealth enemies.
The Recon Drone power-up can be used to temporarily reveal these enemies.
The Z.E.D. is not recommended to be used on short maps like Deserted Island because of the spawn time and the fact that it cannot stop in place to shoot.
On the contrary, it is great on long maps like Oil Rig or Highrise because the length will ensure more Z.E.D.'s can spawn and the units can use their range more effectively.
The Z.E.D. is excellent in the late game because the Z.E.D. Level 5 has 10,000 health points (which can equal 10k damage to a single enemy when ramming) and deals an insanely high DPS number of 2980. For comparison, the bottom path Golden Juggernaut, even with buffs, cannot reach this DPS consistently.
That being said, the Z.E.D. Level 5 has its weaknesses, such as not being able to stop while shooting, its 75 second spawning time, its lack of stun immunity, and the fact that the Z.E.D. is essentially set to die through its nature as a unit.
If you have enough cash, allZ.E.D's should be upgraded to Level 5 simultaneously. This is to force multiple Z.E.D's into spawning into the same area in order to deal more DPS, allowing it to rival the Golden Z.E.D. in terms of DPS.
Trivia[]
The Z.E.D. is based on the Zed from Tower Battles with minor differences.
Unlike the original Z.E.D., this Z.E.D. has stealth detection from Level 5.
On its release, the original Zed did have hidden detection but it was removed 1 hour later.
The level 5 Z.E.D. does not resemble its current counterpart in Tower Battles, instead resembling the older level 5 original Zed model when it was called the M10 or "Void Walker".
The Level 4 upgrade resembles the current M11 Z.E.D with some changes.
The original level 4 and 5 Zed have 8 barrels for the main gun, while the level 4 and level 5 Z.E.D. only have 7 in Tower Defense X.
The first three upgrade names are exactly the same as the Zed's first three upgrades.
There is a limit to how many of each Unit can be on the map/track at a time per Z.E.D.
